Type Locality and Naming

Along the Kenes village, South Aral region. I.M. Abdazimova in 1996. Boreholes. Stratotype - section of well 25G, 16 km north-northeast of Kenes village.

Synonym: Kenesskaya Suite, Кенесская св.


Lithology and Thickness

Sands, sandstones, clays, siltstone (aleurolites) gray-colored, in the upper part mottled with gravelite layers, rounded clay pebbles, large phosphorite and glauconite grains. Thickness 70-206m.


Lithology Pattern: 
Coarse-grained sandstone


Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Conformably overlies, sometimes with signs of erosion, the Uzunkuduk Fm

Upper contact

It is overlain by the Shakhman Fm.

E. Ustyurt, South Aral region. Used in the legend of the South Aral sub-series for geological maps of the 1: 200000 scale, 1998.

Contains marine bivalve mollusks - Leda exilisa Burk., Linotrigonia Spinosa subovata Lyc., L. aculeata Burk., Corbula infrequens Burk.; foraminifera - Trochamminoides cenomanicus (Zhuk.), Trochammina ex gr. kugitangensis N. Byk.; spores and pollen - Selaginella Granata Bolch. (1-2), Klukisporites visibilis Bolch. (0.5-1), Foveosporites cenomanicus (Chl.) Shv. (0.5-1), Taurocusporites reduncus (Bolch.) Stov.
